The sole basis for our
beliefs is the Bible, God's infallible written Word. We believe that it
was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that
it was written without error in the original manuscripts. It is the
supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks. We
explicitly affirm our belief in basic Bible teachings, as follows:
-
There is one true God, eternally existing in three
persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - each of whom possessed
equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality.
-
Jesus Christ is God, the Living Word, who
became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and
His virgin birth. Hence, He is perfect deity and true humanity united in
one person forever.
-
He lived a sinless life on earth and
voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their
substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation
for all who trust in Him alone.
-
He rose from the dead in the same body,
though glorified, in which He lived and died.
-
He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down
at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between
God and man, continually makes intercession for His own.
-
Man was originally created in the image of
God. He sinned by disobeying God: thus, he alienated himself from his
Creator. That historic fall brought all men under divine condemnation.
-
Man's nature is corrupted, and he is,
therefore, unable to please God without regeneration and renewal
by the Holy Spirit.
-
We
believe that salvation—the forgiveness of sins—cannot be earned, but
is given to us only through the blood of Jesus Christ and by God’s
grace (Matthew
26:28; Romans 5:1-11, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-10; Hebrews 10:19-22; 1
Peter 1:18, 19; 1 John 1:7).
-
We believe
that we must respond to God by admitting our sin and our need for
God’s grace (Romans 3:23; Titus
3:3-7), Believing and confessing the truth about Jesus
(Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:9, 10),
-
Turning away from sin (repenting—Luke 24:45-47;
Acts 3:19, 17:30),
-
Trusting Jesus
as Savior and Lord (Romans 10:11-13, Philippians 2:11),
-
And being baptized (immersed) into
Christ (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-4).
-
We believe in
the church of Jesus Christ, consisting of all Christians everywhere
(Matthew 16:13-18;
Acts 2:14-47, Ephesians 1:22, 23).
-
The Holy Spirit has come into the world to
reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to
men. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to
them, continually indwells them from the moment of Spiritual birth, and seals
them until the day of redemption. His fullness, power, and control are
appropriated in the believer's life by faith through water baptism.
-
Every believer is called to live so in the
power of the indwelling Spirit that he will not fulfill the lust of the
flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God.
-
Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His
body, which is composed of all men, living and dead, who have been
joined to Him through saving faith.
-
God admonishes His people to assemble
together regularly for worship, for participation in ordinances, for
edification through the Scriptures, and for mutual encouragement.
-
We believe in the
church’s mission: making disciples of all nations, baptizing them
and teaching them to obey all of Jesus’ commands
(Matthew 28:18-20).
-
There exists a personal spirit of Evil,
Satan, our adversary, who, with great power, carries on organized
opposition to the Kingdom of God, and seeks the demise of man: he will
suffer ultimate and total defeat at the hands of Jesus Christ. We accept
these large areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there
has been general agreement among all true Christians. We desire to allow
for freedom of conviction on all matters of opinion, provided that any
interpretation is based upon the Bible alone, and that no such
interpretation shall become an issue which hinders the ministry to which
God has called us.
